Kobo partners with Rdio to pre-load app on Vox tablet

Amazon and Barnes & Noble aren't the only companies touting some high-profile apps for their Android-based tablets. Kobo has now also announced a partnership with Rdio, which will see the latter company's app (and access to a catalog of more than 12 million tracks) come pre-loaded on the new Kobo Vox tablet. Of course, the Rdio app is already available for other Android devices, but this is certainly at least a small boon for Kobo, which doesn't offer Android Market access on the Vox tablet.

If your current motherboard has more Mountain Dew than CPU, you might be interested in ASRock 's forthcoming Haswell offerings. Among the usual features like dual-band 802.11ac-flavored WiFi, HDMI input and a Home Cloud service, Tom's Hardware spotted a mention of "Waterproof by Conformal Coating." The company's sub-site doesn't give too much else away, like how extensive the protection will be, instead simply telling us to "A-Style our lifestyle." The only feature with any amount of detail is a Pure Sound audio system (7.1 channel audio, Realtek ALC1150 audio codec and a TI 5532 pre-amp if you're interested) that we've already seen . The quantified self movement's gaining steam, with companies creating all sorts of gadgets to track our activity levels, sleeping habits and even what's going on inside our heads. Melon's an EEG headband that taps into your brain's inner workings to show you how well you maintain mental focus. We actually saw Melon's prototype predecessor last year when it was called Axio, and while this new band packs largely the same components, the design's been refined to a much thinner profile. As before, its got a trio of electrodes for sensing brainwaves, a NeuroSky chip for filtering out extraneous electrical noise and Bluetooth 4.0 for offloading data wirelessly. It sends data to iPhones (Android's in development) running the Melon app, which translates that info into a focus graph -- generally speaking, the higher the neural activity in your pre-frontal cortex, the higher your level of focus. Google's Susan Moskwa Safe In Nepal

Susan Moskwa was part of Google's Webmaster Trends Analysts (they need a new name for that team) for a few years and  left that team  to fix internal communications at Google in 2012, but she was very influential to the team when she worked in that division. I still follow her today. She was all excited to go on a vacation to Nepal, landed and she is now stranded there, SAFE, but stranded. She has posted two updates on her status on Google+. One was on  April 25th  that said: I'm in Pokhara, Nepal; +Natala Menezes​ and I are safe. We are sheltering in place for a couple days to see if things calm down enough in Kathmandu to catch our flight out on the 28th.
